This extension and alteration project In Edinburgh’s New Town was commissioned in 2012 by Nial and Ragine Ogilvie on an existing site in Cumberland Street Lane. A somewhat aesthetically challenged former commercial garage built in the 1960’s, the upper floor was an occupied flat and the lower floor a garage/store.

The project involved converting the ground floor into living accommodation and fully refurbishing the upper floor completely to a modern high quality standard. Upgrading the thermal insulation and improving the daylighting were essential requirements of the brief, although Nial and Ragine also required underfloor heating this was topped with french limestone tiles as a homage to Ragine’s homeland.

We also included low U Value Windows and a modern wood burning stove in a very sustainable low carbon end result.
